Susan Zoll, Ph.D.
Dr. Susan Zoll's research speaks to the need for increased access to high-quality early language & literacy opportunities for all children.
She works alongside teachers using a coaching model to gather and transform literacy data into effective classroom instruction; and to co-design opportunities to engage families as partners in students’ learning.
Dr. Zoll has served as Co-Chair of the American Montessori Society’s Research Committee and as a member of the Innovation Fellowship Think Tank.
She holds an AMS-Early Childhood credential and served as
Montessori educator,
Teacher trainer for the Language curriculum,
Head of School, and as a
Researcher and Associate Professor in Early Childhood Education.
Dr. Zoll has co-authored three books published by Teachers College Press:
Powerful Literacy in the Montessori Classroom: Aligning Reading Research and Practice (2023);
Effective Literacy Assessment in the Montessori Classroom: Using Data to Inform Instruction (2025);
And a third book explores Montessori education across the continuum, titled: Implementing the Montessori Method: Learner-Centered Education from Birth through Adolescence (available early 2026).
